Nutrition Team Lead, Ethiopia Resilience in Pastoral Areas Activity 

ACDI/VOCA is seeking a Nutrition Team Lead for the upcoming Resilience in Pastoral Areas Activity in Ethiopia funded by USAID. The anticipated program will increase the resilience of households, markets, and governance institutions as well as the utilization of early warning signs across pastoralist communities in Ethiopia’s, contributing to enhanced food security and inclusive economic growth.  

The Nutrition Team Lead will design and direct nutrition specific activities in accordance with global best practices and donor requirements. Additionally, they will identify and develop opportunities to integrate nutrition with other thematic areas across the project, including through nutrition-sensitive agriculture, market systems, and food systems development approaches. They will participate in strategy, program implementation, program monitoring, and evaluation in relation to integrated nutrition, including capacity building and technical assistance to government and community stakeholders.The program is anticipated to start in 2025, and this position will (tentatively) be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical thought leadership to ensure implementation of nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive strategies and activities. 
  • Design and deliver realistic and pragmatic nutrition strategies and programming interventions that will lead to positive nutritional and health outcomes, including improved nutrition status of targeted households and institutionalization of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions into government systems. 
  • Track and report against nutrition indicators and disaggregate data to analyze results within each target. 
  • Conduct assessments, reviews and audits to assess ways to continually strengthen the focus, quality, and type of interventions. 
  • Identify successful practices in the project that can be showcased in publications, communication materials and conferences. 
  • Prepare communications materials that highlight the Project’s nutrition program successes and lessons learned. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in public health, nutrition, community development, or related field is required. 
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in nutrition programming specific to the pastoral and agro-pastoral context, with a specific focus on women and children is preferred 
  • Relevant experience integrating nutrition into agriculture and/or resilience projects and knowledge of nutrition-sensitive agriculture, market systems, and food systems concepts. 
  • Relevant experience integrating nutrition with WASH activities, especially using market systems approaches. 
  • Proven experience in providing nutrition-focused technical expertise and operational capacity strengthening to host government institutions, private sector partners, and other institutional stakeholders from national to sub-district levels. 
  • Experience working in Ethiopia is strongly preferred.  
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
